The SCAN Video/DVD Library

The SCAN Video/DVD Library presents a new, easy way to learn the SCAN technique - at your own pace, and at your own location.  The video/DVD sessions can be viewed individually or by a group.

The program begins with:  "Introduction to SCAN" (90 min), "The Strategy of the Interview" (90 min), and "Principles of SCAN Analysis" (3 hrs).  These sessions take the student step-by-step through the actual analysis of statements, with detailed instructions on developing the statement using the SCAN technique.

The three introductory sessions are then followed by one or more topics from the SCAN Crime Solutions Video/DVD Library (3 hrs each).  These sessions demonstrate the effective use of SCAN in interpreting the statements of suspects, witnesses, and/or victims to solve the following cases:

CS1.   Solving Homicide Cases with SCAN
CS2.   Solving Sexual Assault Cases with SCAN

CS4.   Solving Robbery and Theft Cases with SCAN
CS5.   Solving Insurance Fraud, Arson and Loss Cases with SCAN

A one-hour video presentation of the SCAN technique is also available.  The video presentation shows an interview about SCAN, conducted by a cable television channel in the Detroit area.  It is available for $10 (to cover costs of postage and handling).

Advanced Options:  Additional Products for SCAN Students

LSI also offers the following products to those who have already attended the LSI SCAN course, in order to increase their efficiency in the SCAN technique:

REASON Command Center

REASON Command Center is the perfect tool for writing SCAN reports!  With REASON Command Center, writing a SCAN report is as easy as clicking on a drop-down menu.

REASON Command Center (REport Automated SOlution Notes) is a collection of over 650 report comments (10% more than the original REASON diskette), named by topic and arranged in an easy-to-use directory tree on a CD ROM.  With a few mouse clicks, the SCAN analyst can "zero in" on the appropriate comments for the situation, preview the comments and include them in the SCAN report being prepared.

The CD ROM also includes the full text of the SCAN Workshop Guidebook - a very detailed manual (over 200 pages) which guides the SCAN analyst step-by-step in analyzing statements and producing a SCAN report.  The Guidebook also includes a practice section composed of case studies with their solutions.

All material on the CD ROM is in MS Word format.  This option is available only for students of the LSI Course, who are already familiar with the SCAN process.

LOGIC Analysis Software

LOGIC (Linguistic Observation and Guide to Inquiry by Computer)  makes it easier to SCAN statements and write SCAN reports, by combining the SCAN technique with your computer's capabilities.  This program (accompanied by a detailed 138-page manual) will use your computer's capabilities to supervise the analysis so no point would be disregarded.  The program includes:  analysis macros, report comments, and on-screen analysis tips.  The program is designed for use with Microsoft Word 97 (and all newer versions of Word).  Older versions of LOGIC are available for use with WordPerfect 5.0 or 5.1 DOS, or with Microsoft Word 6.0 or 7.0 for Windows.  This option is available only for students of the LSI Course, who are already familiar with the SCAN process.
